He is the director of Microarray lab, a member of Gastrointestical Research group. Dr. Maxwell M. Chait is a practicing gastroenterologist and assistant professor of medicine Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He is a Fellow of several prestigious organizations, including the American College of Physicians, American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has authored numerous publications and serves on the editorial board of several journals. He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Liver Disease and Transplantation.

He started his academic career at UAE University where he serves now as a Full Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology. His research focuses on ways to control cancer, particularly liver cancer.
